Saint-Gobain Abrasives participated in the 17th China International Hardware Show

From March 10th to 12th, Saint-Gobain Abrasives took part in the 17th China International Hardware Show at Shanghai New International Expo Centre. During the exhibition, we built a unique double-floor stand as well as set up 1:1 site demo show to display products, work pieces and machines together with their applications. The direct way of display was different from those conventional displays of competitors, and remarkable results were achieved as well. Special designed series of Norton Bear and Norton Clipper in construction area for Chinese hardware distribution market were showed to the audience. In addition, on-site product demonstrations were arranged 3 times a day as well as dance performances, product knowledge quizzes and lucky draw. At the main entrance of the exhibition square, we specially placed a 5X8-meter huge outdoor billboard, and tailored 2 plush bears- Golden Bear and Silver Bear who were sending out leaflets at the exhibition, which has caused great interest from the audience.

SGA took part in 2010 SEMICON® China sucessfully

On March 16th -18th, China largest semiconductor manufacturing exhibition 2010 SEMICON® China also took place at Shanghai. Saint-Gobain Abrasives as an exhibitor, its products displayed were there through the upstream to downstream in the semiconductor market, such as Fixed Diamond Wire, ID Saw blades, OD saw blades, CMP dressers, wafer Back Grinding wheels, 1A8 hubless dicing blade etc. Among them, 2 products with the latest technology left a deep impression on the audience: One was the polishing-free wafer back grinding wheel. It is designed through the use of finer diamond grits to increase porosity, together with a new kind of bond, it can reduce the damage caused by grinding through the reduction of the width of the teeth and achieve the effect of polishing-free grinding through reducing stress. Another was the Fixed diamond wire, which had merits such as high tension, small cutting loss, high efficiency and small warp to help clients reduce production costs.

Saint-Gobain Abrasives China won ‘CIMES 2010 Innovation Product Top20 Award’

At the moment of 2010 CIMES, the award of CIMES2010 Innovation Product Top20 was issued by Metal Working magazine of Vogel Media Group in Beijing on June 13th,. SGA China received the award with its Norton Quantum grinding wheel. It is the 4th consecutive year for SGA China to earn this award. Saint-Gobain Abrasives China signed a strategic alliance agreement with TISCO

On April 8, 2008, Saint-Gobain Abrasives China successfully signed a “strategic alliance agreement” with Taiyuan Iron & Steel (Group) Company Ltd (TISCO). Mr. Gills Colas, General Delegate of SG Asia Pacific, Mr. Zhong Zhang, Vice President, Abrasives, North & Southeast Asia, and Mr. Li Xiaobo, General Manager of TISCO group attended this ceremony. By the win-win terms of the agreement, SGA has secured the largest share of the future Abrasives product supply contract while TISCO will be ensured to have the best technological and application support from SGA in China and worldwide. Taiyuan Iron & Steel (Group) Company Ltd (TISCO) is the biggest SS (stainless steel) producer in China with 3 million ton annual capacity. As China accounts for over 30% of the world’s steel output, steel market represents one of the biggest potentials for Saint-Gobain Abrasives in China. On the 12th May 2008, Wenchuan (southwest Sichuan province) earthquake measured 7.8 on the Richter scale has shocked the entire land of China, the civilians in the region have suffered from huge damages, and painfulness as a result of this massive disaster with death tolls of over thousands. All people in China have yet to overcome another serious natural disaster just a few months after the destructive snowfall in the beginning of the year. To help the victims survive from the earthquake, we appeal everyone of our employees to pay attention to the regions hit by the disaster, give the warmest hand to victims to help them recover. although we can never prevent the suddenness of natural disaster, the overwhelming confidence, courage and solidarity shown by our compatriots in face of natural disaster is the ultimate guarantee to surpass any kind of difficulties. Currently, Saint-Gobain Abrasives has provided 3000 pcs Thin Wheel products to cut collapsed ferroconcrete for disaster area. Saint-Gobain Abrasives was awarded “The Winning Energy Saving Companies”

In December 2008, Saint-Gobain Abrasives was awarded “The Winning Energy Saving Companies” by Shanghai Minhang District Economic Commission and Shanghai Minhang Economic & Technological Development Zone Management Office. This is the 2rd consecutive year for SGA to earn this award. With the full support of all the functions from the company, SGA China has made the following progress in 2008: the energy consumption cost of TW is lowered by 12% comparing with 2007, BA 6.35% and CPD 5%. Meanwhile, a series of solutions were also put into action: improving the electrode of hot press achieves annual energy saving at 166Kdegree (or 67T standard coal), therefore extending equipments serving period and also increasing the productivity; the change of the upper heat insulation layer in kiln decreases the temperature of the kiln from 200 degree to 120 degree, resulting in a cooling temperature in the workshop in summer; as for green products, the newly created bonded abrasives in the newly-built BZZ line & organic wheels in BA workshop consume less energy, helping lower down the entire energy consumption of the company. SGA will be continuously carrying out the Energy Index according to Shanghai Government'srequirement, to achieve the sustained development in 2009.

SGA Suzhou Plant awarded ISO9000 QMS

In December 2008, Saint-Gobain Abrasives (Suzhou) Co. Ltd passed ISO 9000 quality management system auditing, and officially obtained the certificate in February, 2009. As early as June 2008, SGA Suzhou Plant circulated a written proposal in calling on all departments to make phased preparation for the upcoming certification processes. A senior lecturer from Suzhou CQC Certification Center was invited to advise as well. It took only 6 months for the plant to get the certificate thanks to the active participation and great efforts made by all the employees from various departments of the company. Representing an investment of 17 Million Euros and inaugurated on July 22nd, 2008, the Suzhou plant is a state-of-the-art facility designed to manufacture full range of Coated Abrasive products. It is the first coated plant for Saint Gobain Abrasives in China and has been set up to meet the requirements of the China and South East Asia markets. In addition to the latest technology in manufacturing equipment, it also incorporates advanced environmental protection equipment to meet and exceed Chinese and International standards. Coated Abrasive products are used for grinding, sanding and polishing on a variety of materials like metal, wood, plastics, ceramics etc in a broad spectrum of industries like Automobile, Aerospace, Metal fabrication, Furniture manufacturing and Construction.

SGA China in 2008 CIMES

From October 9th to 13th, 2008, Saint-Gobain Abrasives China participated in the 9th China Int’l Machine Tool & Tools Exhibition (2008 CIMES) in Beijing, the biggest trade show for the industry in China in 2008. SGA China was present with a 54 sqm booth, which attracted around 700 visitors. Over 500 enquires and 329 business contacts have been received. During the exhibition, we have created a “new product area” especially presenting Norton Quantum, SlottingPro, Winter Q-Flute 2 and N7 CBN grinding wheel. It has attracted a lot of audience and received very positive feedbacks. Two on site media interviews have been arranged for Jeff He, Commercial Director of SGA China, to meet the journalists from Ringier and Vogel, two biggest publishing companies for the industry in China. One article has been on the second day’s exhibition Show Daily. Another will be issued on in November. The news of SGA China participating in the 08 CIMES as well as SGA new product introduction is also published on the following main industrial magazines: 1. MM Metal Working Publisher: Vogel 2.
